Think of a time you built a fort. Writing is a lot like this. First there's the location. Is the fort in your living room or in the back yard? Perhaps your fort is somewhere in the woods. Each place requires you to consider the materials for how you will build your fort. You must also consider who your fort is for. Is it private or will it house your closest friends? Like the location, you must consider construction based on your audience.
When your fort is built and you test it out, that's when you discover the blankets are sagging, your feet stick out into the rain, or there's a lot of critters you didn't count on. So you go back and rethink your fort. And you improve the construction. Writing is all of this. It's with the trial and error you figure out what works the best. Your confidence builds and soon you are constructing parks, theme parks, coliseums, and more. Let's get to building... |
